Is this a familiar posture for your child?

With increased virtual classes and cell phone use, bad posture has impacted back strength which could lead to spinal instability with growth. Knowing what to change in order to improve their posture and when to bring them to a doctor may prevent long term postural deficits. Below are some helpful tips!

Correct height of table and chairs: The top of the computer monitor should be at eye level and their knees and elbows should both be at 90 degree angles when sitting! Try a 3 minute stretch and jumping jack break every hour too!

Proper lighting: By improving the light in the room there will be less hunching towards their work station to see the papers.

Swimming! This activity actives the back, core and legs which will strengthen postural muscles.

Be an example for your child. Improve your own posture while watching tv with them or have them join you in sitting on exercise balls to improve core strength and posture!

If you find your child not only hunching forward but leaning to one side this may be a larger issue and a postural check by your chiropractor or medical doctor is a good step in order to rule out any scoliosis.

Many children experience back pain and tightness throughout their growing years with sports, studying or injuries. Both of our doctors have treatments that can help with this, but also will suggest specific exercises for them to do in order to prevent pain and improve posture!

Give us a call today if you have questions or need your child checked for postural issues!
